As an important technical path to supplement energy for new energy vehicles, the popularity of power exchange mode has been rising rapidly in recent days. Last week, the working meeting of the drafting group of the national standards for the replacement of pure electric commercial vehicles and pure electric passenger cars was held in Xiamen. Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, a representative of battery companies, and Wei Lai, a representative of electric vehicle companies, announced significant progress in the cooperation of the replacement business in Chengdu and Xiamen on July 30th and August 1st, respectively. Recently, a reporter from shanghai securities news learned that under the joint efforts of enterprises, local governments and other parties, the mode of electricity exchange and energy supplement is welcoming a new round of industry opportunities.

The standardization demand of electricity exchange industry is urgent.

'The standardization of power exchange has tight working hours, heavy tasks and urgent industry needs. It is hoped that through the joint efforts of relevant units, a consensus will be reached, the implementation of power exchange standards will be promoted, and the standardized and healthy development of electric vehicle power exchange industry will be promoted.' Liu Guibin, chief engineer of the Institute of Standards of China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., told reporters.

The urgent demand prompted more than 160 experts from more than 40 related institutions and enterprises, such as the National Automobile Standards Committee, automobile OEMs, power batteries, power station construction and operation, spare parts, etc., to gather in Xiamen from July 26th to 29th to attend the working meeting of the drafting group of power exchange standards.

With the policy guidance and the enhancement of consumer acceptance, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China have reached a new high. According to the data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in the first half of the year, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were 2.661 million and 2.6 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of over 120% and a market penetration rate of 21.6%.

At the same time, domestic facilities such as power stations are also increasing rapidly. According to the data from China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, as of June 2022, the number of power exchange stations in China has reached 1,582. According to the current situation of local development, Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shanghai rank first, with 272, 213, 154, 144 and 103 seats respectively.

Lan Zhibo, vice president of Aoxin Energy, told reporters that the mode of changing electricity for new energy vehicles is an important way to supplement energy for new energy electric vehicles, that is, the power battery of the vehicle in a power shortage state is quickly replaced by a battery with saturated capacity through the power exchange station, and the power loss battery is re-stored in the power exchange station for centralized charging and management. 'Compared with the charging mode, the power changing mode has the advantages of high energy replenishing efficiency, low battery loss and less space occupation.'

Head company expands power exchange business.

As a new force in China, Weilai has built a total of 1,048 power stations (including 271 highway power stations) in the Chinese market.

On August 1st, Xiamen Tongan Shell Station, the first charging and replacing station jointly operated by Weilai and Shell, was officially put into operation. Relevant persons from Weilai said that the commissioning of the station marked the start of cooperation between Weilai and Shell in the field of electric vehicle energy. According to the agreement, Weilai and Shell will jointly promote the construction and operation of charging and replacing facilities. In terms of power station construction, in China, the two sides will build 100 power stations by 2025; In Europe, the two sides plan to start the pilot work of the construction and operation of power stations from 2022.

On July 30th, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, a power battery head company, signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Chengdu Municipal Government. The two sides will carry out all-round cooperation in the fields of power exchange operation, new energy and energy storage. According to the person in charge of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, in terms of electricity exchange cooperation, both sides will actively promote the research and development and application of electricity exchange technology. Through the separation mode of vehicle and electricity, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited's Times Electric Service Combination Power Exchange Scheme will solve three problems of new energy vehicles: cruising range, convenience of energy replenishment and purchase cost, and provide convenient and reliable mobile electric energy solutions and services for Chengdu users.

Geely Automobile is also stepping up to expand its electricity exchange business. Geely's Ruilan Automobile recently announced that it will complete the layout of more than 300 power stations by the end of 2022, covering 23 cities. 'Cars are sold to consumers with batteries, which in turn are leased, providing electricity exchange services and earning revenue. Through interoperability and sharing, the spring of electricity exchange will surely come quickly. ' Cai Jianjun, vice president of Rui Automobile, told reporters.

Opportunities and challenges coexist in electricity exchange market.

Citic Securities Research Report predicts that in 2022, China's power exchange stations are expected to see explosive growth, and the number of new power exchange stations in the whole year will exceed 3,000; By 2025, it is expected that more than 10,000 new power exchange stations will be built in that year, and the corresponding equipment investment and operating income of the power exchange industry will reach 100 billion yuan.

'The newly built power exchange station has improved the energy supplement facilities of new energy vehicles and contributed to the popularization of new energy vehicles in the future.' Mei Songlin, a senior auto industry analyst, told reporters that just like 'grain and grass go first', convenient energy supplement is crucial to the further development of the new energy vehicle market. For a long time in the past, the electricity replacement mode was a supplement to the charging mode, but now the electricity replacement mode is developing in the same direction as the charging mode. Especially before the large-scale application of high-voltage fast charging, there is still a lot of room for development when the power exchange can be completed in a few minutes.

Mei Songlin said that the power exchange mode will be more attractive to upstream power battery enterprises such as Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, because the promotion of the power exchange mode can greatly increase the market demand for power batteries, which is conducive to further expanding the power battery industry.

In January, 2022, Times Electric Service, a subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, launched the power exchange service brand EVOGO and the combined power exchange scheme, and also launched the mass-produced battery 'Chocolate Power Exchange Block' for power exchange. Chen Weifeng, general manager of Times Electric Service, said that the power exchange station can adapt to various brand models using 'chocolate power exchange block', break through the adaptation barriers between batteries and models, and realize the freedom of choice of power exchange models.

However, some experts in the industry believe that although the power exchange mode is good, some new energy automobile enterprises in the middle of the value chain need to face huge investment in capital, manpower and material resources, and the return period of some power exchange station investment is at least five years.

According to the latest research report of Dongxing Securities, the relationship between upstream and downstream of the power exchange industry chain is generally clear: the upstream mainly includes basic parts manufacturers, charging system suppliers, power exchange system integrators and power battery manufacturers; There are mainly power station operators and battery banks in the middle reaches; Downstream service mainly serves end users such as B-end and C-end, and also involves power battery recycling business. At present, the upstream investment demand space is vast, and equipment and battery manufacturers are expected to take the lead in benefiting; The profit model of the power exchange operators in the middle reaches is highly certain, and it may usher in a situation of competing with each other.

It is reported that the terminal application scenarios of power exchange mode are mainly divided into passenger car power exchange and commercial car power exchange. At present, the electricity exchange mode is mainly used in the fields of electric taxis, electric network cars and electric heavy trucks with high daily energy consumption. Most of these customers are B-end customers, and the penetration rate of C-end consumers is still not high.
