The number of new energy vehicles has reached a new level

The reporter learned from the Ministry of Public Security on July 6 that by the end of June 2022, the number of motor vehicles in China had reached 406 million, including 310 million vehicles and 10.01 million new energy vehicles; There are 492 million motor vehicle drivers, including 454 million car drivers.

By the end of June, the number of new energy vehicles in China had reached 10.01 million, accounting for 3.23% of the total number of vehicles. Among them, the number of pure electric vehicles is 8.104 million, accounting for 80.93% of the total number of new energy vehicles. In the first half of the year, 2.209 million new energy vehicles were newly registered, an increase of 1.106 million compared with the first half of last year, an increase of 100.26%, a record high. The new registrations of new energy vehicles account for 19.90% of the new registrations of automobiles.

In the first half of 2022, there were 16.57 million newly registered motor vehicles nationwide, a decrease of 2.14 million or 11.43% compared with the same period of last year; There are 11.1 million newly registered cars. There were 5.34 million newly registered motorcycles, an increase of 1.08 million or 25.38% compared with the first half of last year.

By the end of June, 81 cities had more than 1 million cars, an increase of 7 cities, 37 cities with more than 2 million cars and 20 cities with more than 3 million cars. Among them, there are more than 6 million cars in Beijing, 5 million cars in Chengdu and Chongqing, and 4 million cars in Suzhou, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Xi 'an and Wuhan.

There are 492 million motor vehicle drivers in China, of which 454 million are car drivers, accounting for 92.38% of the total number of drivers. In the first half of 2022, the number of newly licensed drivers nationwide was 11.03 million. The Regulations on the Application and Use of Motor Vehicle Driving License, which was implemented on April 1st this year, added 'light towing trailer' quasi-driving type (C6). At present, the number of drivers with C6 quasi-driving type has reached 160,000, which can better meet the travel needs of the masses in driving small caravans, and promote the development of new RV tourism formats.

BYD's car sales hit a record high in the first half of the year

As the first car company to announce the suspension of the sale of fuel vehicles, BYD recently released a report showing that the company's sales of new energy vehicles in the first half of 2022 exceeded 640,000. Tesla's global production and delivery reports for the first and second quarters of 2022 show that the company produced and delivered more than 560,000 cars in the first half of the year.

According to market analysts, this change shows that China's domestic automobile industry is developing rapidly and its position in the global new energy automobile industry is constantly improving.

Data show that in the first half of the year, BYD's new energy vehicles sold a total of 641,350 vehicles. Among them, the sales volume of pure electric passenger cars reached 323,519, a year-on-year increase of 246.2%; DM hybrid passenger cars sold 314,638 vehicles, up 454.2% year-on-year; Sales of new energy commercial vehicles were 3,193.

According to the research report released by soochow securities, the intensive listing of new models is one of the reasons for BYD's rapid sales growth. According to incomplete statistics, from February to June, 2022, BYD has put at least five new cars on the market. According to the research report of Huaxi Securities, behind the rapid growth of sales is BYD's efforts to continuously deepen technology, especially the success of DM-i super hybrid and pure electric 'E Platform 3.0' technologies.

It is worth noting that the rapid growth of BYD's sales volume was realized after the suspension of the sale of fuel vehicles. On April 3rd, BYD announced that it had stopped the production of fuel vehicles since March, 2022. In the future, BYD's automobile business will focus on pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Since the beginning of this year, governments at all levels in China have successively introduced policies to stimulate consumption. In May this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other four departments deployed the 2022 new energy vehicles to the countryside activities, encouraging participating enterprises to increase preferential treatment, strengthen after-sales operation and maintenance service guarantee, and support the consumption of new energy vehicles.

At the local government level, Shenzhen, where BYD's headquarters is located, has introduced a policy to give subsidies of no more than 10,000 yuan per unit to individual consumers who newly purchase qualified new energy vehicles and put them on the market in Shenzhen; The Beijing Municipal Government has also proposed that by the end of 2022, consumers who meet the requirements of 'trade-in' to purchase new energy passenger cars will be given a subsidy of no more than 10,000 yuan per car.

Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the National Passenger Car Market Information Association, believes that in the first half of 2022, many new energy automobile brands in China, including BYD, performed well, which indicates that under the dual power of effective market pull and policy drive, the new energy automobile industry has formed a strong endogenous growth power.

China's electric vehicles are popular in overseas markets

It is understood that BYD is actively expanding overseas markets, and the European market is the main direction of its new energy vehicles 'going out to sea', which is expected to be reflected in the sales volume in the future. In addition, other Chinese new energy automobile companies, such as Weilai Automobile and Xpeng Motors, have also set up their business overseas.

Pedro Dobles, general manager of Costa Rica's official BYD dealer Corey Automobile Company, said in an interview with reporters in San Jose a few days ago that BYD is currently the best-selling electric vehicle brand in the region, with the first sales volume in 2020 and 2021 for two consecutive years. It is expected that the sales volume will remain the first in 2022, and the market share will increase.

According to official statistics, in 2021, the sales of BYD electric vehicles in Costa Rica increased by 69% compared with the previous year, accounting for about 30% of the market share of new energy vehicles in Costa Rica, and showing a strong upward trend. In the first quarter of 2022, BYD's sales in Costa Rica increased by 220% year-on-year, and its market share of new energy vehicles has risen to 50%.

Not long ago, the Costa Rica Auto Show, which had been suspended for two years due to the epidemic, resumed, and BYD's electric car booth was particularly popular. Dobles said that BYD Yuan pro is the most popular electric vehicle model among Costa Rican consumers. In the first half of this year, Costa Rica sold 1,200 BYD Yuan Pro (locally known as S1 Pro in Costa Rica), setting a new high for BYD's solitary sales in Latin America.

'Costa Ricans have a very high acceptance of S1 Pro, with 430 S1 Pro sold in 2021 and 1,200 since 2022.'

Dobles said that S1 Pro is not only the favorite model of individual consumers in Costa Rica, but also favored by local multinational users. 'We delivered 29 S1 Pro to Wal-Mart at the end of last year, and Wal-Mart will use these new cars to form the largest new energy vehicle fleet in Costa Rica.'

Dobles noticed that BYD's higher-end Han and Tang models also sell well in Costa Rica. He believes that the popularity of BYD electric vehicles in Costa Rica is mainly due to its rich product line and perfect after-sales service.

Although Costa Rica is a small country in Central America, it is internationally praised for its environmental protection. Costa Rica's national decarbonization plan puts forward the goal of zero emission of greenhouse gases in 2050. It is estimated that the electrification rate of public transport in Costa Rica will reach 70% in 2035, and all of them will be electrified in 2050.

At present, among the 28 brands of electric vehicles sold in Costa Rica, 16 are Chinese brands. Dobles believes that under the background of rising oil prices and inflation, China's new energy vehicles, represented by BYD electric vehicles, will occupy a larger share in the Latin American market with their excellent performance and reasonable price.
