'We are particularly motivated to accelerate the planning and construction of large-scale wind power photovoltaic base projects in deserts, Gobi and desert areas with national support.' Zhang Yongchun, President of Yili photovoltaic desertification control group, one of the project investors and builders, said.

In October 2021, the 2 million KW photovoltaic sand control project of Kubuqi in Inner Mongolia Mengxi base was started in Hangjin Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The total investment of the project is nearly 12 billion yuan. The green electric energy produced after operation can save more than 1 million tons of standard coal every year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 3 million tons every year. While generating electricity, it can also control 100000 mu of desert.

As one of China's major energy bases, Inner Mongolia produced 1.04 billion tons of raw coal in 2021, accounting for about 1 / 4 of the country's total output; At the end of 2021, the installed capacity of thermal power was 98.28 million KW.

At present, the installed capacity of new energy in Inner Mongolia exceeds 50 million KW. More than 1 / 3 of the electricity installed in the region and more than 1 / 5 of the electricity consumption of the whole society come from new energy. Compared with the same amount of thermal power, the total emission reduction of new energy power generation is equivalent to 180000 hectares of afforestation. Wang Jinbao, director of Inner Mongolia Energy Bureau, said that in 2022, the autonomous region will strive to add about 20 million kilowatts of new energy connected to the grid, so that the installed proportion of renewable energy will reach about 40%.

While expanding new energy, Inner Mongolia has also accelerated the construction of zero carbon industrial parks.

At present, the zero carbon industrial park project in Yijinholo banner, Ordos City is under intense construction. This project is built by vision technology group. The energy supply in the industrial park comes from zero carbon energy such as wind power, photovoltaic and energy storage. The projects in the park include fan equipment manufacturing, power battery production, hydrogen energy preparation and upstream and downstream industries, with an annual output value of 100 billion yuan.

Abundant renewable energy is one of the key factors for the implementation of the zero carbon industrial park project in Ordos. It is estimated that the reserves of wind energy resources with development value in Ordos are more than 50 million KW. 'The zero carbon industrial park turns the resource advantages of renewable energy rich areas into industrial advantages,' said Gai Zhiyi, a professor at the school of economics and management of Inner Mongolia Agricultural University

In addition, Inner Mongolia has also made great efforts in energy conservation and consumption reduction, issued several guarantee measures to ensure the completion of the dual control objectives and tasks of energy consumption in the 14th five year plan, coal and electricity energy conservation and consumption reduction and flexible transformation action plan, and achieved certain results. Some enterprises respond one after another through technological innovation.

A high-purity cast pig iron project of Inner Mongolia saisipu Technology Co., Ltd. mainly uses hydrogen based smelting reduction smelting technology to realize the revolutionary transformation from traditional 'carbon metallurgy' to new 'hydrogen metallurgy', avoid traditional sintering and coking processes, reduce carbon emissions by more than 30% and significantly reduce comprehensive energy consumption.

'At present, the process put into operation has realized iron smelting by using 20% hydrogen instead of coal, and it is planned to realize all hydrogen industrial smelting in 2025.' Zhou Haichuan, deputy general manager of the company, said.
