How to develop new energy commercial vehicles? The conference delivered an important message

Xinhua Wuhan, January 20 (Liu Ju) the 2022 China commercial vehicle industry conference was recently held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The participating experts discussed and analyzed the situation and development trend of China's commercial vehicle industry, and discussed the development prospects, key points and difficulties of new energy commercial vehicles.

Accelerating the development of new energy vehicles, commercial vehicles are the breakthrough point

In 2021, China's automobile production and sales will increase steadily, and new energy vehicles will become the biggest bright spot. According to the data released by the Ministry of industry and information technology, in 2021, the cumulative sales of new energy vehicles in China reached 3.521 million, and the market penetration reached 13.4%, a year-on-year increase of about 1.6 times, ranking first in the world for seven consecutive years.

Subdivided into the commercial vehicle sector, in the past year, affected by the switching of national six emission regulations and the wait-and-see consumption caused by the 'blue light truck' policy, the commercial vehicle market showed signs of fluctuation and downward. However, the cumulative sales of new energy commercial vehicles were 186000, a year-on-year increase of 54%.

Compared with passenger cars, there is still much room for improvement in the new energy of commercial vehicles. According to the calculated data of China Automobile Industry Association, the penetration rate of new energy commercial vehicles in China will be 3.89% in 2021, which is still lower than 4%.

Xu Changming, deputy director of the National Information Center, pointed out that in recent years, the new energy of commercial vehicles in China is basically in a 'low-level wandering state'. The main reason is that commercial vehicles, as means of production, have complex operation scenarios and sensitive operation costs. Previously, the new energy process of commercial vehicles was dominated by the bus section, and the proportion of new energy truck sales did not show a sustained growth momentum.

Zhong Weiping, Secretary General of commercial vehicle Professional Committee of China Automobile Circulation Association, said: 'at present, there are many difficulties in the development of new energy commercial vehicles in China, including operation cost, operation efficiency and adaptability of operation scenarios. If these key problems are solved, the new energy process of commercial vehicles will be significantly accelerated.'

In fact, the industry generally believes that the carbon emission reduction of commercial vehicles is more urgent. According to the annual report of China Mobile environmental management (2021) released by the Ministry of ecology and environment, cars are the main contributor to the total emission of pollutants. According to the data of the Ministry of public security, the number of commercial vehicles carrying goods in the first half of 2021 was about 30 million, accounting for only 11% of the total number of vehicles, but the proportion of carbon dioxide emissions was as high as more than 50%.

Experts at the meeting proposed to accelerate the popularization of new energy vehicles, focusing on making breakthroughs in commercial vehicles with long driving range, high fuel consumption and high proportion of carbon emissions.

Driven by the 'double carbon' policy, new energy commercial vehicles may increase rapidly

It is understood that compared with independent brand passenger cars, China's independent brand commercial vehicles themselves have great advantages. In the past ten years, the market share of China's independent brand commercial vehicles, especially large and medium-sized buses and trucks, has been increasing, accounting for more than 90% of the market.

'The development of China's own brand commercial vehicles itself has a good foundation. Although the new energy commercial vehicle is a new track and its development is still in the primary stage, we are confident that China's commercial vehicle industry can make good achievements, which is determined by China's huge market.' Zhong Weiping said.

Experts at the meeting judged that China's automobile market has great potential, especially the implementation of the 'double carbon' goal, which has accelerated the progress of transformation. In 2022, China's new energy commercial vehicle market will enter a period of in-depth development.

Researcher Zhang Liqun of the development research center of the State Council pointed out: 'China's economy still has high growth. The recently concluded central economic work conference has determined the basic direction for China's economic development in 2022.' The long-term fundamentals of China's macro-economy will not change, and the automobile market will continue to grow.

It is worth mentioning that the influx of new car making forces is also good news for industrial development. Zhong Weiping said: 'with the influx of Yutong Bus, grove and other new forces in vehicle manufacturing, this cross-border will change the relatively closed ecology of traditional commercial vehicle enterprises, broaden the boundaries of vehicles, bring about the integration of resources, changes in concept and changes in operation mode, which is conducive to reducing costs.'

'The new energy of commercial vehicles is a long-term process. It is expected that more than 50% of commercial vehicles will realize new energy by 2035.' Zhong Weiping said that previously, the energy-saving and new energy vehicle technology roadmap 2.0 released under the guidance of the Ministry of industry and information technology also mentioned that by 2035, the annual sales of energy-saving vehicles and new energy vehicles will account for 50% respectively.

Reshape the new energy commercial frame structure system and enhance the core competitiveness

How to better deal with the challenges of new energy transformation of commercial vehicles? Many experts suggested that promoting the reconstruction of new energy commercial frame structure system is the top priority and a difficulty that must be broken through.

It is understood that compared with the traditional fuel vehicle architecture system, most domestic new energy commercial vehicles do not have a relatively complete architecture system.

Zhong Weiping said that most of our new energy commercial vehicles are still based on the transformation of the traditional chassis, replacing the engine and fuel system with the drive motor and battery system. This transformation based on the traditional commercial vehicles will be limited by the inherent structural constraints of the traditional vehicles, and there is no 'qualitative' change, resulting in high cost, huge weight and low transmission efficiency. 'In the future, only by reshaping the new energy commercial frame structure system can new energy commercial vehicles achieve better development.'

Liu Gang, vice president of Foton Automotive Engineering Research Institute, believes that promoting the construction of new energy commercial frame structure system will be the basic project to expand and strengthen China's commercial vehicle industry. 'In the future, the whole platform of our new energy commercial vehicle will be a new special platform for new energy electrification, with three electricity as the design core, integration of power battery and chassis, high-speed integration of drive variable speed transmission, high degree of design freedom, many technological innovations and high level of integration.'

In order to better promote the development of new energy commercial vehicles, traditional vehicle enterprises are constantly expanding their 'circle of friends'. Long Sihai, director of the new business development department of Dongfeng commercial vehicles, said: 'the development of new energy commercial vehicles will face different use scenarios and multi-level intelligent needs, which may bring us a panic of insufficient knowledge reserves, insufficient technical reserves and various talent shortages. Only by constantly expanding the 'circle of friends' can we better complete our mission.'

'The challenges we face in developing new energy commercial vehicles in the future may also be more and more concentrated on the raw material side, which are scarce resources.' Zhong Weiping said that traditional lithium batteries may be replaced with sodium ion batteries, but these require technological breakthroughs, which take time.
